Giving thanks for you!
Dear Friend,
Hunger doesn’t take a holiday. That’s the reality for 1.5 million Greater Washington residents facing food insecurity, according to the Capital Area Food Bank’s 2025 Hunger Report. Our homebound neighbors are at particularly high risk of not having enough to eat.
Because of your generosity, Meals on Wheels of Takoma Park/Silver Spring has been meeting the moment to feed homebound adults – the elderly, people living with disabilities or weakened immune systems, and those recovering from surgery or illness.
Every weekday, Meals on Wheels prepares and delivers two fresh meals to adults who are unable to shop or safely cook meals for themselves. Your support helped us deliver nearly 55,000 meals in 2024, and we are on track to achieve the same goal in 2025! Thank you!
Not being able to drive or walk any distance and living alone makes it very difficult to eat well. Meals on Wheels is a good solution to this problem for me.

Meals on Wheels is much more than Door Dash. We provide vital social connections for isolated homebound adults. We are the friendly visitors that comfort them on hard days and watch for signs of distress. We ensure family members are informed of their loved one’s well-being, and we work with them and other agencies to address health and safety concerns. As a Meals on Wheels delivery volunteer, I can attest to the impact that our 200 amazing volunteers contribute every day to keeping homebound adults safe and cared for.
As we close 2025, there is uncertainty for those who are food insecure, now and in 2026, and beyond. Government cutbacks targeting food assistance programs have been swift and far-reaching. Our clients are anxious—and with good reason. Job losses and rising prices are forcing families to tighten their belts. We understand, and we are determined to continue to fulfill our mission to deliver healthy, delicious food to our homebound neighbors.
We ask you to partner with us to meet the increasing demand for Meals on Wheels services. Our goal during this season of giving is to raise $25,000 by December 31. Your donation helps to ensure that we can provide healthy meals and wellness visits to more than 215 neighbors.
Please renew your generous support today. Your commitment to Meals on Wheels makes an immediate impact.
Thank you for keeping our homebound adults nourished, healthy, and safe through your generosity. You bring hope back to our neighbors and the larger community during these challenging times.
With deepest gratitude,
